A caring community with a remarkable desire to serve.
The Friends of the Durham Guardian ad Litem Program is made up of generous volunteers from around the Triangle region of North Carolina. Based in Durham, the licensed nonprofit foundation works to leverage the generosity of our community — working directly with the local Guardian ad Litem program to identify and provide for the critical and specific unmet needs of children in foster care in Durham.
We support children in foster care with the resources, relationships, and stability they need to feel safe, seen, and supported.
The need, in numbers
The board will select the facts that best convey our message. The figures below are placeholders to drop real numbers into.
To fill the GAPs.
There is a gap between what county government can provide and what these kids actually need. And there is a gap in a child’s sense of self-esteem and self-worth that comes from being uprooted, again and again.
“New homes mean new rules, new schools, new people — over and over again.”
Who Guardians ad Litem are
A Guardian ad Litem is a specially trained, court-appointed individual who represents the best interests of the child. They advocate for and protect the interests of minors who cannot fully advocate for themselves.
Guardians build a relationship with the child, talk to teachers, doctors, and foster families, review records, and submit reports to the court — making sure each child’s voice is heard.
